Bhagabat Drugs & Pharmaceutical Laboratory Pvt Ltd – A journey of positive Transition
It is indeed great pleasure to share my journey with you. My alliance with Ayurveda dates back to the year 1990, when I was an Allopathic Doctor aligned with the Govt of West Bengal Health services, posted in Kolkata. I was fortunate to meet Mr. Ashim Chakraborty, then Area manager, Welfare pharmaceuticals, Kolkata who first introduced me to Ayurveda. I started with voraciously reading the books by Prof & Dr. Ram Nath Chopra and associates entitled “Indigenous Drugs of India”, “Glossary of Medicinal Plants of India” and “Poisonous Plants of India” which are still amongst the most enduring and popular encyclopedia of Indian medicinal plants. I eventually realized, Ayurveda is the science of healing and rejuvenation and its scope is beyond the physical existence of life.
Coming from a background of Western school of Medicine, integration of the Indian and Western Systems was still a far cry, and a beginning had to be made. The basic fact stood strong, that early human habitat was surrounded predominantly by the vegetable kingdom and it was, therefore, natural that the first choice for the drugs was of the natural products viz. Roots, stems, barks, and fruits of plants in the vegetable kingdom. There is still abundance of these natural resources, with the capacity to provide intrinsic restorative and curative properties without adverse chemical side effects or toxicity. Ayurveda, kept herbal, aims at complete wellness, more than just cure including prevention of a disease. It is more of a nutritional diet than medicine, enabling the body to heal on its own. The idea was simple – Our body is an energetic system and disruption in the balance and flow of energy cause illness, and the right natural sources helps maintain this Bio energy balance.
After 3 yrs. of extensive research, and finally, on the 15th of April 1993, I was fortunate to Launch Bhagabat Drugs and pharmaceutical laboratory pvt ltd, along with the constant support of my wife, Mrs. Manju Rout, also an ardent follower of the alternative traditional school of medicine. The facility was one of the few of its kind in Odisha, and the only pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in the district of Jagatsinghpur. The Inauguration was completed in the presence of the Chief District Medical officer, Deputy Collector, and other honorable district and state level officers who came to grace the occasion.

There is something more important than enumerating diseases one by one; something more important that we must deal with every day: people who are ill, who feel ill, who suffer … as a whole!

It is usually assumed that there is a close correlation between changes as a result from disease and changes in quality of life. Ayurveda aims at treating the patient, not just the disease, this is a simple change in perspective. But this change that can make a world of difference; it can change how effective we are at helping our patients to end up with happier and more effective lives.
